Hello!

Today, we worked on the introduction and conclusion of the rough draft. I’ve included the notes as well as the HW for this above.

Students had extra work time in the computer lab so that I could help them if needed, and so they would have additional time to get as much done before the weekend as possible. Students did a great job, and most are finished or close to being finished with their rough draft.

Block one also looked at another lesson of “Camp Life” part two and identified key events in the story. They then summarized the key events.

Thursday 11/30

HW: change and impact checklist hw

Today, students had time in the computer lab to continue working on their magazine article. Students who are on track are adding the change and impact paragraphs today. Tomorrow, we will talk about what is needed for the introduction and conclusion.

Students also completed a lesson on “Camp Life” where they identified key events.

Students also did a free write in block two.

Wednesday 11/29

HW– Students started their weekly assessment. It is called 11/29 Quiz 1 Week 1. Students should complete this assessment at home if they need more time. They can access their quiz by going to http://www.clever.com and clicking on Benchmark. They will then go to assignments and open the assessment.

The assessment needs to be on a chrome browser and make sure that pop ups are allowed. 

Today, students did a great job with their service learning projects!!

Jayce did a project about community emergency services-Meals on Wheels.

Will made rice heating packs for the humane society.

Anders did a supply drive for the humane society.

Bret coordinated a fun run and the money that she earned went to the Minnesota Children’s Hospital.

Silas made dog toys and sold them and donated the money to Feed My Starving Children.

Mila did a supply drive and donated the proceeds to Secondhand Hounds.

Mia did a project where she made tie blankets for people experiencing homelessness.

Elika did a project with Feed My Starving Children.

Danny volunteered with a local food shelf.

Maeve volunteered with the local organization Sheridan Story and included this video about the organization.

I am so impressed with the work that students are doing for their service projects. It has been wonderful for all of us to see the impact that they are making in their community, and in the world! Well done!!

Tuesday 11/28

HW: Cause and Effect Checklist-

HW Cause and Effect 11:28

Today, students read “Games in the Woods” and analyzed how multimedia contributes to meaning and tone.

Next, students learned about r-controlled vowels and past-perfect tense.

Finally, students had time to write their cause and effect paragraph, which is also their homework.

Monday 11-27

Hello!

Editing Checklist-Early Life

Today, students accessed their main article google doc here.

Please click on student email/google docs from that page.

Tonight, parents will use the checklist provided to make sure that students have all of the parts they need for their early life paragraph. This includes:

  • An attention getting topic sentence
  • At least three supporting detail sentences
  • A closing sentence that could transition into their next paragraph

Students did a great job getting started today with their rough draft, and we think it will get easier and easier each day. Nice work, students!

 

Monday, 11-20

  • Today, students continued reading the text, “Becky Returns” and comparing and contrasting two characters from the story.
  • Students also looked at vocabulary from the text and determined the meaning of words and phrases.
  • Students also worked on writing the early life paragraph of their magazine project main article. They looked at what makes a great topic sentence, as well as supporting detail sentences and a closing sentence.

 

Thursday 11-16

HW: Finish Unit 3 Test

Please make sure you are taking the test on chrome. Safari will not work with benchmark tests. Select the Unit 3 Test option. Remember to allow pop-ups!

**Specific Directions:

#13.) We have not learned this rule. Answer is B.

#18.) Please write 3-4 of your best, complete sentences to write an informative paragraph to complete your answer. Extra points will not be rewarded for writing more than this.

Today, students began class with a little silent reading time. Next, we reviewed the questions that they would be seeing on the test to see if there were any specific questions about the test.

Isabelle H. also presented her service learning presentation in block two about her book donation project.

Next, students began the test. Many students completed the test in class. Some students will finish the test at home for homework tonight.
