Today we covered:

Learning Targets:

  • I can explain how the point of view of the narrator or speaker in a text influences how events are described.
  • I can compare and contrast stories in the same genre on their approaches to similar themes and topics.

Today, students completed an assignment exploring point of view through passages from our memoir and biography about Ruby Bridges.

The second part of the assignment asked students to explain why a memoir uses first person point of view and a biography uses third person point of view. Students needed to explain their answer in a complete sentence.

Today, students completed the story Through My Eyes by Ruby Bridges. While reading the story, students had to determine the following:

  • At a minimum, three key facts from the story
  • the main idea
  • genre
  • point of view

Students began to watch the Ruby Bridges video in class. They are comparing and contrasting the video from the story that we read in class.

Students also had 20 minutes to work in the computer lab on their persuasive writing paper.

In both classes, I was able to conference with small group four today.
