I can compare and contrast stories in the same genre on their approaches to similar themes and topics.
Today, I met with small group three for both classes. We discussed the use of their, they’re, and there. We also discussed student responses to the Scout’s Honor comprehension questions in student notebooks.
Today, students began a lesson on Ruby Bridges. Students began the story Through My Eyes, by Ruby Bridges. Students were looking for the following concepts throughout the reading of the story: genre, point of view, three key ideas, and the main idea. Since the story is not completed, students are still working on this assignment and will continue into next week. Students will then be comparing the story to The Story of Ruby Bridges, by Robert Coles. Students will be investigating the differences between memoirs and biographies, as well as how the point of view changes in each.
Once students are finished with the stories, they will be watching the video Ruby Bridges in class.
Students also had 20 minutes in each class to work in the computer lab on their persuasive environmental paper. Students seem to be doing a very good job of keeping up with the assignment.
