Standards addressed in today’s lesson:
MN State Standard 220.127.116.11 explain how an author uses reasons and evidence to support particular points in a text, identifying which reasons and evidences support which points.
MN State Standard 18.104.22.168 Describe how a narrator’s or speaker’s point of view influences how events are described.
Today, author Caren Stelson was able to join us for her another workshop with students today. Her focus today centered around two central quotes and asked students to think about a deeper meaning within both:
All real living is meeting.
The enemy is a person whose story we have not heard.
Caren also talked about genre, how how she wrote her book as a nonfiction narrative. We talked about the similarities and differences between a memoir, autobiography, and a narrative.
Students also reflected on their story “Scout’s Honor” by Avi. The first block reviewed the assignment and revisited the story if they needed more information to answer the questions. Block two needed more review, so we read the hilarious story in class and reviewed the answers. The assignments are due tomorrow. Most students were finished in class.
