Well, we had another wonderful day with the fifth graders.
Today we dove into silent reading, and students assessed whether their own silent reading book was a good pick for them. They then filled out an interest inventory to help them decide what types of books the really enjoy reading. This year, we are trying to build a lifetime love for reading. One of the parts of that journey is realizing what types of books work for each person. We talked about how it is okay to start reading a book, and return it if you do not like it. I do not want students to suffer through reading this year. That being said, we do have a big reading challenge that is coming next week for students. I am so excited to begin our reading journey this year!
To help students hear different genres, I read a couple of pages from books of different genres today.
We also started talking about our Mind Up curriculum that we will be doing this year. This curriculum is all about mindfulness in the classroom.
Have a wonderful evening, and thanks for stopping by!
